Day Eighteen

Cereal!

In acting we did a scene with slow motion and sped-up motion. It was good times. In art we kept painting, but on Monday we have to not paint, and just look at our work for a class (I'm sure we'll be doing more then just looking at it, but you know). In English we finished then revised one of two drafts we wrote over the last two days, and submitted it for marking. We had forty-five minutes to do it, and even though both of my drafts were already finished, I still felt rushed when the bell rang to start the Terry Fox Run. Apparently almost nobody runs (even the in-shape kids), because as a friend and I speed-walked past everybody, I saw lots of boys from the football team, hockey boys, and rugby boys - all walking. But whatevs! I was actually looking forward to running it, but with Ol' Faithful acting up, there was no way. In math we had to partner up and do an activity thing with calculations and stuff, and I think my partner was thrilled to be with me, because I knew how to do it, even though the teacher had only briefly touched on it. I spent my spare in the library reading. I had to: In the cafeteria I don't want to concentrate on a book, because Muscles Nimbulus and friends are always there as well.
Tomorrow is a birthday party! It's one of those '8 PM - 10 AM' things where you just know if you go to sleep you'll wake up somehow different then when you went to bed. I'm excited!

Day Seveteen

**Non-school tidbits**
My ACL (big-boy knee ligament) is still alive! My new best buddy Kyle even told me so. He was really tall and helpful. I told him everything I had done to it (torn hamstring, four twisty-cracky-sprains. I left out the chipped bone bit, because it wasn't related), and he kept a straight face throughout, then said, 'You may have hope, because with previously torn hamstrings, they could just be weak and pretend to be a torn ACL.' Which made me very smiley, because I was terrified that my ACL was blown to smithereens, and even a bit of hope is hope. He did his little poke-bend-twist things, and when he was finished he let out a big sigh. He said that he was really afraid that I had torn it, because everything I said usually means a torn ACL, but it ISN'T! When he was giving my the ultrasound we chatted about my old town, cause he's totally been there. Then when he was giving me a stretch to do he explained it, and I did it no problem. He raised his eyebrows, said maybe I didn't tear it after all, and that he'd have to give me the really advanced version. So. WAHOO!

At school all was well! There was a junior football game but I didn't stay. In art we painted. In English we wrote. In math we mathed, and in acting we acted. Our scene went REALLY well, everybody was sort of speechless and breath-y afterwards. I was told by people who have watched theatre for ages that it was one of the best death scenes they had seen. So the moral of the lesson is: I can die really well! It was sweet. We got really into it, and when my partner stabbed me she screamed so loudly and convincingly, I thought I really had been stabbed for a second. Then when she stabbed me a few more times on the floor, I made myself go all sweaty and shaky, then still. SO much fun - I love dying on stage.

Day Sixteen

I signed up for the one acts today! Grade twelves who want to direct a one act, and then mass auditions are held, and all the directors sit in the seats and judge / bargain for who they like best, then you get called back if anybody liked you. I'm excited. We had a test in math today - easy as pi (HA. How many times has that one been said?). We also had a fire drill: The first fire drill of my life! Pretty darn impacting.
In art we kept painting, and I got the face in the sky to look much more better, and I started painting the chess board path, so that's very exciting. English was good too. Besides the learning, the guys at my table are just hilarious. So much fun. I wore a Zeppelin shirt today, and the guy who sits across from me had one too, and they were both from '77. We laughed about it. In acting we started work on a partnered 'dramatic' scene, and ours is gonna be SO good - my character gets stabbed! Oh boy.
After school my spare friend (aww) and I went uptown and ate pizza! Then we went to Cobs Bread so she could get a scone, and I didn't want anything, but the lady behind the counter gave us pastry donut sprinkle things for freebies, and they were delicious!

Tuesday 27 September 2011

Day Fifteen

Same ol' same ol' in classes. In English we read about a speech from a Shakespearean play, and now we're writing an essay on it. That's pretty normal for an English Honors class: 'Read everything. Now write about it!' In art we continued painting. Now I think my background looks less like a broken pool, and more like a chilly ... artsy... blue scene (which is what I was going for). In acting we performed another two person scene, and ours was first, which is good, because then class ended and everybody but us has to remember their stuff for tomorrow. Since I forgot to bring a costume and my oh-so-competent partner brought one for me, we looked the part. After school I went to the doctor, and he checked out my leg and stuff. I went upstairs today to make an appointment for physio, and I'm pumped! The receptionist was all, 'You're therapist will be Kyle,' then she handed me my appointment with the name on it, and I glanced at the wall with the pictures of the therapists. Yea, he's the buff young one. No big deal. Next Thursday, awh yes.
Hey there, Kyle. Deal with this!
(and no. Those aren't shadows)

Monday 26 September 2011

Monday

I ate sushi for lunch today.

This is how it made me feel.

Sunday 25 September 2011

Weekend, boi!

Fun times! The little party wasn't actually painful at all, it was really good! We sat down to supper, and there was chicken delicious-ness, and my friend picked up her fork and was halfway to her mouth when she shouts, 'YOU'RE A VEGETARIAN!' They felt bad for forgetting, but I think I felt worse! That's what's funny. When you aren't a vegetarian, if there's no food for a vegetarian you feel bad. When you are a vegetarian and there's no food, you still feel bad. So I had cheese in place of my chicken!
I don't have school tomorrow, whee! Maybe I'll watch a movie and start it at ten and stay up late with a bagel. Or better yet... I'll go to bed!

Friday 23 September 2011

Day Fourteen

Whoa. You should all watch Cinderella Man. It's super good! It's about a boxer in the 30's, and it's a true story, and it's super good! We watched it over two days in acting, and today we finished it. When I leaped out of my chair and screamed, I definitely hadn't planned on it. It was the classic excited scream, where it's a holler and scream put together, but then muffled because the person screaming tries to cover their mouth.
In English our teacher fill in person took over while our teacher and a bunch of students are in Oregon for a Shakespeare play rendition festival... thing. We spent the day looking up tidbits of info on the authors we're doing our lit study on! Edgar Allan Poe was found disoriented and delirious on the streets of *insert American city here*, wearing clothes that weren't his own! He died four days later, and never came around long enough to tell them why he was the way he was! WHOA! His death could easily have been something he wrote. Maybe he knew he had some fatal disease with only a few days to live, and he planned the whole thing out. Whoa.
Little side note here: I definitely thought he was British, not American.
I went to the doctor for my knee, and he said I grade two sprained it, and tore / stretched a few of the ligaments, but "there's enough left to hold everything together." Ha... ha... oh good! He said not to purposely stretch it, which I had been doing, so I plan to stop that now. I'll be doing physiotherapy eventually, too. But no surgery as of yet! Oh my goodness, I feel so lucky.

Now I'm going to an all nighter birthday party horror movie party! I plan to not indulge in the all nighter  part, because they totally suck in the morning. And apparently the girl has it themed as a 'Justin Bieber / Twilight' party. Not lying. I dunno... I may have to have backup before I head in.
'Cover me, I'm going in!'

Thursday 22 September 2011

Day Thirteen

I busted up my knee again yesterday (the ol' football injury acting up again! No but really. It was soccer, so I can technically say that), so getting to all my classes was a pain (ha ha, I get it). Everything was fine! It was raining, so I looked mighty pathetic getting to school - all wet with an umbrella, limping, and sleepy-eyed. We started watching Cinderella Man in acting. Good movie, so far! I'm into it.
In English we talked about 'identity' and the identity of a typical 'heroic' character for a whole block (hour and twenty). Wow. Those English honors kids, eh?

These are my learning muscles.

Wednesday 21 September 2011

Day Twelve

School was good today!! My schedule is going to be as follows: Everything the same first semester. Second semester, I won't be going into Earth Science, and will be going into grade 10 Foundations. NEXT year, in my grade twelve year, I will be taking grade 11 foundations! Heaps of kids do this, so I don't feel too outta the norm. I could have dropped the easy math this semester and changed for the grade 10 foundations this semester, but I feel like the review will be really good, because I have no memory of how to find the area of any 3D shape, to name one thing!
In art we worked more on our big pieces. I added a checkerboard path that's super creepy and awesome, and I was going to add pawns all over as well, but I think the time factor will prohibit that (because we start painting tomorrow! Whee!).
In acting we're doing another partner project, this time working with conflict, and three ways each trying to over come it and get something we want. Ours is going to be funny, and I'm a eurotrash girl who wants to knock a tree down and make a rec centre. My partner suggested we wear clothes like our character, but I'm not wearing eurotrash to school (I'm bringing it in a backpack), haha!

Tuesday 20 September 2011

Day Eleven

Today as I was leaving the school to walk home my math teacher called me back upstairs into his office, and he told me that he thinks I'm too smart and academic for the Apprenticeship and Workplace math!!! He said he wants to keep me as a student (he then mentioned that was just him being jealous), and he would be able to swing me into his fifth period class if I wanted. HOWEVER, my acting is in fifth period. I have art, English honours, math, lunch, spare, then acting. If they have an acting first period and an Art third or fourth period, I would be a very happy camper. IDEALY, there would be acting in first period, english second, art third, my spare would remain fourth, then have normal-level math in fifth. I want my fourth period to stay a spare because that's when the football games happen, and I just love football (well, any sport). My teacher also told me that if I didn't want to switch my schedule around, I could just keep going with the easy math (which really is easy), and do the normal level math eleven in grade twelve (which a lot of kids do). That last option, though he said it was totally fine as well, seems like kind of a suckers option. 'Yea man, some strings got pulled for me to switch classes around two weeks into the semester, but I didn't do it and stayed at a level heaps easy for me.' ... right? Doesn't that sound just a little lame? I have an appointment with my councillor tomorrow at 9:45, and I'm just PRAYING that my schedule works out the way I want it to work out... I really like my friends in acting, and in art there's one guy whose cool, but I would be willing to make that sacrifice if I could keep all the classes I have, just in a different order. Him telling me that he thinks I would do fine in normal math is a big deal, because I've always considered myself crappy at math. OH MY, I hope for what I hope.

In acting one of our partners dropped out of the class so it was just the two of us, and it was great! The teacher didn't have any comments on how we could improve!
In art we made our rough copies even bigger still, and mine STILL looks good (And this is the fourth time I've drawn it!).
In English we started reading Beowulf!

Monday 19 September 2011

Day ten

So the weather said it was going to be cold today, so I wore this rad hoodie that I have, and my outfit was lame and/or not interesting without it. BUT, it got really hot, so I had to take it off. At lunch I had my sammich, but I also had a huge carrot that I was just munching on. Yes that's right, I'm that kid. I'm the carrot kid.
In art we drew our thumbnails in big version, and mine looked really good! That's classic Meadow: draw something flipping epic and then draw it again but it sucks. But not this time! My final copy looks just as good or better than the thumbnail. I think we may be painting them tomorrow or something? That scares me though, because I don't want to wreck the good drawing with a bad paint job, which it will be because it'll be my first time.
In English we started reading 'Seven Brothers' in comic-book form. There's heaps of different versions of the story, and I'm familiar with a few. He's having us read that story because he wants us to understand the layout and form of graphic novels before we read the graphic novel version of Beowulf.
Math was just nothing today. All good.
In acting we had to pick three random emotions out of a hat with a partner (or two in my case), and fit them all together believably in a three to five minute scene. Ours is going to be interesting. But hey - I'm just thankful none of us in my group pulled up the 'aroused' emotion (it was the students who wrote down what emotions we got to pick from).

Sunday 18 September 2011

Friday 16 September 2011

Day Nine

I drank my chocolate milk way too fast and now my stomach hurts.

There was a football game going down at school today, but I had to leave halfway through the 2nd to go to acting. We were down when I left and I don't know how it turned out. But there was a fight! I don't know who started it - We'll say it was a a kid from the other team. I don't know about you, but I don't think I would want to be on the receiving end (Ha ha, get it? Football related humor.) of an angry quarterback. Or any football player, for that matter.
In art we did our thumbnails of paintings we will be doing eventually. She said we should incorporate stuff we already drew, which consists of plants and faces. And she asked us for surreal art, so that is what I did!

Thursday 15 September 2011

Day Eight

We started painting in art: we just did colors today. It's surprising how much adding color to color can confuse some kids. We had our paints, our pallet, and our sketch book. First, we were to paint a swipe of the primary color with nothing added. Then with white, black, then the complimentary color. Half the kids at my table didn't finish before the hour and a quarter class was over (There's only six complimentary colors, people.).
In English we delved deeper into the creepy poem. Our teacher (Who I just love. He's great.) let us talk amongst ourselves at our tables (The guys at my table claim that I mentioned a giant metal man having something to do with the poem.) for a while, then he called our attention to the front and blowed all of our minds. He said that the poem was written around the time that the author had gotten an abortion. So it went from her being the speaking voice, to the baby being the speaking voice, and the photograph that is described in the opening stanza was an ultrasound picture!! She mentioned a 'tree branch' in the top left of the picture, and we figured that was the umbilical cord: our theories just went through the roof after he mentioned that.
In math today the homework was sort of silly (I guess that's good though, because that means I got it.).
During spare I bought chocolate milk from the Macs. That store was insane! It was two chocolate milks for $0.99 cents each instead of $2.10 for one, so I got two (The other one is in the fridge), and they had those Maynards gummy-yummies on sale as well. So I bought candy too, that I haven't eaten... but it was cheap!
In acting my partner and I decided against the beach. We were at an army base. He was the leader guy, and I was the soldier getting trained, but I was tired and didn't like it. When we were in the mess hall eating, somebody came up and told us there was a bombing out in Iraq and we left (That was his idea. My idea was that we should have gotten the news that we were getting shipped out, and the emotional impact would have been more intense; however, his character was a gung-ho sergeant, so I guess that makes more sense). When we got there we jumped outta our plane and then as we were tromping through the jungle I said, 'SHH!' and he looked up and said, 'What?' and got shot in the head. Then the poor, untrained, scared solider (That'd be me.) is left all alone in the jungle. It wasn't what I would have had it been, but it was good enough: We're there to learn, right?
As I was heading out of the theatre one of my friends whose in the tech program (Same class, but the techs just work the lights for us actors) ran up behind me and told me that when my partner got sniped, he was going to have the lights flash all red and then flash back to normal, but one of the other students wouldn't let him because 'the teacher would get mad.' He said he had it all set up and was about to click the button, but the other kid slapped his hand away. He was miffed, and it's too bad, because that would have been pretty cool!

Wednesday 14 September 2011

Day Seven

Woohoo, a full week of classes! No homework (Except this time I had to finish the last four questions of math in my spare. So close)! During Art we sketched some more stuff - I think I'm doing really, really well! Unfortunately she isn't grading it, and by the time we get graded stuff my skill may have run out, so I'll have to resort to calling it 'abstract' art. Ha ha. In English we had this poem that looked nice at first, but the further you read the weirder it got (For instance, "The photograph was taken the day after I drowned. I'm in the lake, in the center." ... Explain THAT one.). We looked at the structure of the poem, and all that jazz that I half-know, but tomorrow we'll get talking about the meaning of the poem. I could write an essay on the out-of-the-box ideas that I already have for this poem - I'm probably a little keen. In math all was well, and for lunch I hung out with some friends that I didn't know went to the school. Tomorrow my spare friend (That sounds terrible) and I are going to go to the Macs near the school and get a slurpee (While 'studying.' No but seriously, it won't take the full spare to walk to Macs.). In acting we got our little assignments and we all have partners now, and we're to perform them tomorrow, so that'll be good. Ours is set on a beach, and it'll be interesting to see if he and I can actually plan out something successful.
As of today, I have officially lived in BC for a year and one day! Woohoo!

Tuesday 13 September 2011

Day Six

I haven't even had a full week of classes yet, but I feel like I'm totally in the swing of things. No homework, again, thank you very much. In English I got done early, but I had a book (Because my teacher told us that if we finished early, he just wants us to read.) - The Book of Negroes! It's friggin' intense, and I'm only 81 pages in. Acting was fun (As per usual) - we performed our little scenes that we practiced yesterday.
In math, as I was reading the last question the bell rang, but I got my answer written and the homework handed in. My teacher was all, 'Look at you! TWO homework candies owed!' Candy is a bonus on top of the no-homework bonus. My spare dragged again, but that was only because I had no homework, and just sitting is fun, too. I'm not alone during my spare anymore, either! The second day a girl came up to me and said, 'You jumped off the pier a lot during the Summer, right?' And yes, that was me. So now we sit and do homework and chat.
During lunch I managed to keep my shirt spill-free, which is nice. Now I'm at home eating one of the cheese strings that my mum bought, because she never got the chance to pack lunch for a grade four kid (Hey man, I'm not complaining).

Monday 12 September 2011

Day Five

Know what's a good feeling? No homework! My math teacher (Who is just great, by the way) said he owes me a candy for finishing my homework before class was over; at least, I think he said it was a candy. My English, again, isn't supposed to be done at home,  so I don't have any of that, either! Before the teacher handed out our first marked piece of work (Marked, but it didn't count for a grade) he talked about how even if somebody got a '3,' they shouldn't worry because that didn't mean they wouldn't be a '6' by the end of the semester. At this point I was half thinking, 'Oh NO a 3!' but I got a '5!' Tada.
In art we drew more plants - today I only drew the leaves. Leaves can be really creepy and cool if they're dead, did you know that? In Acting we did some more fun little games (Which I'm fully enjoying while I can, because it isn't going to be games forever). My classes went by nice and quick, but my spare seemed to take ages (Which I guess is better then the classes taking ages).
During lunch I went over to a friend's house who lives close (Who also goes to the school), and I obviously made myself a piece of peanut butter bread. But she had no jam (Or so I thought), so I opened this 'blackberry preserve,' but it was more like syrup for pancakes. Well, I put that on my bread and it tasted alright, but half way through it exploded down the front of my shirt and leg. Thankfully my shirt was black, but it still stained a bit. It looked like I had been stabbed, so I scrubbed it out as best I could (And it's darkish in the school, so I don't think anybody else noticed).

Sunday 11 September 2011

The Weekend!

It was a beautiful weekend, full of sun and lazyness and all that good stuff. On Saturday I didn't do much - I went for a walk, and... I''m sure I did more then that... Today was good! Ate pizza for lunch and mixed some pepsi with 7-up. It was delicious: They mixed just good. We went to my Aunt and Uncles new house for brunch / hot tub / pool / munchies on the deck with friends! It's a current pool, since my Uncle is a swimmer, so you can swim and swim all day and not get anywhere, but it's also good just to sit in (Which is good, because I don't think the swim top I wore could have stood up against the current).
My mum and I went to DQ afterwards, and I got a Mint Oreo mini blizzard. I highly recommend it. Now my homework is finished and my lunch is made, and I'm listening to Our Lady Peace - a good end to a good weekend.

Friday 9 September 2011

Day Four

Today went by really quickly! I sketched a dead poppy and black hornet in art. It was enjoyable! Math was uneventful and bearable. In English we had to give feedback on each other's work, then leave the fed-back work with the teacher for more feed back. During the quiet writing period, a guy at my table burped really, really loudly.
The football game was fantastic! We won 14 - 13, so it was a bit of a nail biter. The sun was just scorching us, but about a quarter of the way through I couldn't feel my burning skin anymore, and went pleasantly numb (I even had sunscreen on)!
Apparently, during lunch (Around 12:30 I think) there was an earthquake on the island! I wish I would have felt the tremors, cause other kids did, but I didn't notice anything.

Thursday 8 September 2011

Day Three

Tomorrow is the opening of a field that has been closed for about three years! We have two fields, and they've been working on the lower field for ages. So there's a big First Nations blessing, RCMP, and two football games happening! The first football is during my spare, isn't that fun? My Acting teacher decided that we would all go to the game instead of class tomorrow, so that's really exciting! I love ALMOST every sport, and a football excites me!
Today I ate lunch in the sun, and it was nice. I watched some guys miss hitting cars in the parking lot with a rugby ball by about a foot while I ate my sandwich. We aren't aloud to eat in the hallways any more, because the teeny-boppers have a class during our lunch, so I have no clue where we're all going to go to eat when it's wintering outside.
Yesterday I bought a calculator for my math class, but the stupid thing doesn't have a pi button on it, so now I'm going to go buy another one.

Wednesday 7 September 2011

Day Two

So today school OFFICIALLY started. I managed to find all my classes, and I wasn't late for anything, believe it or not. My math class (E Math) seems to be filled with the type of kids who skip a lot, because the teacher made it very obvious that if we did skip, we'd get a zero on that assignment. Personally, I don't plan on skipping. My spare was a bit awkward, since I had nothing to study, so I just sat on a bench in the cafeteria by myself for an hour, but other then that the day was pretty ok! Pictures went just fine, I'm pretty sure the mullet was rockin'.
My locker buddy hucked my backpack onto the lower section of the locker. So... I guess the lower half is where I'll be sticking my stuff! And... My teachers are all great (Well. Great so far.)! Day two, done.

Tuesday 6 September 2011

Day One

So I'm already done my first day. Turns out it was only an hour long anyway, but it still counts as a first day! My homeroom teacher is pregnant and made us shout out the first baby names that came to mind. I gave 'Onyx and Xoe.' I know (Or know of) heaps more people in the school then I thought I did (The count is up to five!), so that's a fun little bonus.
Tomorrow it gets nuts, but I'm not freaked out or anything - I'm really looking forward to it! School photos are tomorrow as well, which should be interesting.

As I sat here typing this short little blog, I saw five kids from my school, isn't that fun?

Thursday 1 September 2011

Five Days

Today is the first day of September, which means there are five days left until my first day of school! I'm probably a little over-excited. I have all of my classes, and I even managed to find all the class rooms on my own (With a map). I have a spare before lunch, which is handy, because this semesters 'homeworkish classes' are also before lunch. I'm going to audition for the theatre company as well, because I just love being on stage. Today my mum and I go to the school for a tour and locker distribution. All of the lockers are shared, and I'm hoping my partner doesn't end up being a kid who leaves old food everywhere or something.

I even have my first day of school outfit all picked out (Actually, somebody picked it out for me.), because apparently that's a thing to do.
